St. Catherine's Rotunda in Znojmo

Location: Znojmo, castle

Client: City of Znojmo
Completion: 2005 - 2006

The original roof of this historic monument of extreme significance was likely made of stone. For long centuries it was covered with ceramic tiles. Later, in the second half of 20th century, it was covered with copper and later shingle roof. Both of them had harmful influence on moisture within the rotunda and thereby on its unique fresco paintings.

The task of the practice, in close co-operation with National Monumental Institute, was not only to construct a roof which would have fitted to the rotunda, but also ensure perfect ventilation. Noticeable also is the perfect protective construction which was completed by the provider of the building, and which ensured the safety of the fresco paintings during the restoration.
